It may be totally irrelevant in this case, but software can break if
your 'home' directory is a Windows root directory like C:, because it
has tries to access a parent

As for the last two questions, I am completely not computer-savvy so
where can I find a checkdisk and how do I find out if the home
directory is still writable? thanks!

Does you home directory under windows contain any special characters? Did you
try a checkdisk to repair any errors? Are you sure you home directory is still
writable?

I installed it two days ago (was working fine after install), didn't
use it yesterday, then when I tried to open it today I got an error
