I have installed the apk, but I get the message "Can't connect to server" 
without any debug information.

Can you try with this version, after deleting /sdcard/mnemosyne ?

If you've done a full sync from phone to PC in the past, you might have 
ended up with two copies of files, i.e. A/B and A\B, which will get 
propagated back to your phone after a full sync. However, you should be 
able to delete the unused copy without problems.

I have installed the version provided by dropbox and it installs fine on my 
Laptop (the one that has installation problems). I haven't tested with an 
existing database yet.

I will try on my Desktop (the one with font problems) when I am at home.
