My friend is sited so he does not required voiceover. When I turned on
voiceover then screen gets turned off.

Seems like screen curtain is on your friends phone.
Kindly triple tap with three fingers it will turn off.
When voice-over is on.

what do you mean by off/black. is voice over completely irresponsive? or
just screen gets turned off and you can hear the voice over. if only the
screen is getting off, there is a justure to turn it on. just tripple tab
using your 3 fingers the screen curton will be off and normal display
