Re: [Mobile.AI] Few clarifications about android mobile.
There are nexus phones which are pure google phones, having stock android and also provide all updates. then there are samsung, sony and LG phones which do quite a bit of customisation. Nexus phones are quite expensive. I suppose most of the indian brands like karbon, micromax lava etc would be having stock or least customised roms. But there update cycle may also not be up to the mark. -Original Message- From: ishita kapoor Sent: Friday, May 10, 2013 11:33 AM To: Dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phonesand Tabs. Re: [Mobile.AI] Few clarifications about android mobile.
As far as accessibility is concerned, it has been pointed out earlier what matters is the operating systems. to add further, in case there are some issues of accessibility for apps like dialer or default keyboard, it can be overcome easily by installing replacements for those apps. so accessibility would be best if the phone has latest jb i.e. 4.2.2. -Original Message- From: ishita kapoor Sent: Friday, May 10, 2013 12:12 PM To: Dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phonesand Tabs. Hi Harish, this is strange indeed. GPS navigation is a big selling point of android devices. Re: [Mobile.AI] Building APK.
Dear Aruni He has the source files and wants to make a APK file. Eclipse is the standard means to do so. I have not worked on it though. Eclipse is freeware and accessible with NVDA, So, good to give it a try. Re: [Mobile.AI] Building APK.
Dear Aruni Sir / Cannon, I am a part of eyes-free user group, but wasn't keen on joining developers list as mostly the things will pass over my brain as I am not a developer as such. Aruni Sir, the idea here is that I have the source code of an app, to be precise ESpeak by Reece, which is a paid app, but Google Wallet doesn't support cards with 3d security. So, I pulled out the zip of the source code from github, and now I have to build the APK. As far as compiling is concerned, from reading it seems that using EClips is a best option, as it requires lesser commands to be given, though not aware of accessibility challenges. The lines which I am not able to understand is the terminal command, but since it is followed by $sign, I am not sure how far it will work on windows. To my knowledge, the $ based commands work on linix etc. For your ready reference, it is pasted as below. Fetching the Sources The Android port uses the ucd-tools submodule. You can fetch this by running: $ git submodule init $ git submodule update If I am able to do the basic development stuff, then my next task is to learn android coding. Though I intend to use the same for fun and to see if I can make things easy for me by playing with app source. Regards, -- Amar Jain.
