Re: [Mobile.AI] advice needed for android

2013-01-21 Thread Aaruni Sharma
Hello Ishita, inspite of karbon being stock android, there are quite a
number of issues and you will be better off going for the chat or
galaxy music duo which have near perfect accessibility. if you prefer
qwerty you can go for chat or otherwise music duo is a very cute phone
with duel active sim support. I have seen it personally and liked it
very much. however go to the shop and have a feel and then decide. all
the best.

2013-01-21 Thread Satguru
Hi,

A friend has just purchased Samsung Galaxy S3 and I want to know what are
the basic settings one must do in order to achieve maximum accessibility?
I've enabled Explore by touch and Talkback is running. What else is
recommended? Step by step guidance would be appreciated. The person is not
technology expert at all.

I have seen it personally and liked it
very much. however go to the shop and have a feel and then decide. all

Re: [Mobile.AI] advice needed for android

2013-01-21 Thread Aaruni Sharma
hello Ishita, qwerty has advantages but I found my samsung phone's
qwerty not so good. personally I haven't seen galaxy chat in action
but have heard that it's ok. Music duo has very good sound with two
speakers and sterio sound. it has duel active sim support also. and of
course you will not need anything extra like eyes-free keyboard as the
default keyboard is perfectly accessible. it would be better if you
see both the phones and decide as it is a matter of personal
convenience.

Nikita,
I use an iPhone 4S and with iPhone 4S, the difference from iPhone 4 is
that
it has support for Siri; where you can ask a question to your phone and
you

get an answer; You mamy ask something like What's the time? or What is
local weather? etc. I think, the other difference between all these
phones

is hard ware and iPhone 5 is the latest from Apple.

As far as use with VoiceOver is concerned, you should be comfortable once
you are used to; YOu don't think, there will be slow down for us to use
computer with a screen reader as compared to a sighted user, right? So
it's

same way for phone too. I know a lot of totally blind people who use touch
devices quite well. Even, they do a lot of emailing, surfing etc.

Fleksy is an app that makes your life easy for typing. it does have a
prediction capability.

As far learning time, it depends on your aptitude, if you decide to learn
it quickly, you will be able to learn fast, otherwise, it can take years,
it depends on you. One website that can come handy is
http://applevis.comthat has a lot of resources for blind and visually
impaired iOS users.

Hope this helps,
-Srini

Dear List members,

Warm greetings .

Actually I will be shortly buying a smart phone and therefore needed a
frank opinion on my following queries

what is a better option amongst IPhone 4, 4S, 5, Samsung S3 or Samsung

for us what is the actual difference between the above 3 models of
IPhone that is 4, 4S and 5? is this difference justifiable for the
cost differential??
I understand that for operating the IPhone, with using voice over, 1
has to double tap on the icon so does this reduces the spead of using
the IPhone by a Visually impaired when compared to a sighted person?
how long does it take to actually learn using a touch screen phone
like the one I have mentioned above I have never used a touch screne

how do you rate the quality of talk back to voice over?
any other phone in this category can I consider?

 Nikita,
I use an iPhone 4S and with iPhone 4S, the difference from iPhone 4 is
 that
it has support for Siri; where you can ask a question to your phone and
 you
get an answer; You mamy ask something like What's the time? or What
 is
local weather? etc. I think, the other difference between all these
 phones
is hard ware and iPhone 5 is the latest from Apple.

As far as use with VoiceOver is concerned, you should be comfortable
 once
you are used to; YOu don't think, there will be slow down for us to use
computer with a screen reader as compared to a sighted user, right? So
 it's
same way for phone too. I know a lot of totally blind people who use
 touch
devices quite well. Even, they do a lot of emailing, surfing etc.

Fleksy is an app that makes your life easy for typing. it does have a
 prediction capability.

As far learning time, it depends on your aptitude, if you decide to
 learn
it quickly, you will be able to learn fast, otherwise, it can take
 years,
it depends on you. One website that can come handy is
http://applevis.comthat has a lot of resources for blind and visually
 impaired iOS users.

 Hope this helps,

 Dear List members,

 Warm greetings .

Actually I will be shortly buying a smart phone and therefore needed a
frank opinion on my following queries

what is a better option amongst IPhone 4, 4S, 5, Samsung S3 or Samsung
 note 2.
for us what is the actual difference between the above 3 models of
IPhone that is 4, 4S and 5? is this difference justifiable for the
 cost differential??
I understand that for operating the IPhone, with using voice over, 1
has to double tap on the icon so does this reduces the spead of using
the IPhone by a Visually impaired when compared to a sighted person?
how long does it take to actually learn using a touch screen phone
like the one I have mentioned above I have never used a touch screne
 phone before?
how do you rate the quality of talk back to voice over?
any other phone in this category can I consider?

your advice in this regard is highly appreciated

Hi

Once you click on internet radio, you will be prompted for the internet
service, it could be WIFI, GPRS etc.

Once you select appropriately, you should get it ok thereafter.

Have you got the internet station list?

What is the error you are getting?

Nikita,
I use an iPhone 4S and with iPhone 4S, the difference from iPhone 4 is
that
it has support for Siri; where you can ask a question to your phone and
you
get an answer; You mamy ask something like What's the time? or What
is
local weather?

Hi

It may either be a hardware related issue or driver. Get it checked by your

Re: [Mobile.AI] Unable to play internet radio on my mobile

2013-01-21 Thread Kotian, H P
Are you using the internet radio which comes as default in most latest phones.
You will get under media, radio
Select it and move cursor once down and again select.
Internet radio will get activated.
When you move cursor down it does not say internet radio, but it lands up there.

Are you using the same steps?

Harish.

Hi

It may either be a hardware related issue or driver. Get it checked by
your vendor. Maybe a firmware upgrade would help.

hi harshvardhan, try other networks and see if the problem still
persists. Hi Sakina, you must go to settings/general/accessibility and
enable voiceOver. You can find the user guide on the apple site which
is quite a comprehensive one.

Nikita,
I use an iPhone 4S and with iPhone 4S, the difference from iPhone 4
is

that
it has support for Siri; where you can ask a question to your phone
and
you
get an answer; You mamy ask something like What's the time? or
What

is
local weather? etc. I think, the other difference between all these
phones
is hard ware and iPhone 5 is the latest from Apple.

As far as use with VoiceOver is concerned, you should be comfortable
once
you are used to; YOu don't think, there will be slow down for us to
use
computer with a screen reader as compared to a sighted user, right?
So

it's
same way for phone too.

Hope this helps,
-Srini

Dear List members,

Warm greetings .

Actually I will be shortly buying a smart phone and therefore needed
a
frank opinion on my following queries

what is a better option amongst IPhone 4, 4S, 5, Samsung S3 or
Samsung
note 2.
for us what is the actual difference between the above 3 models of
IPhone that is 4, 4S and 5? is this difference justifiable for the
cost differential??
I understand that for operating the IPhone, with using voice over, 1
has to double tap on the icon so does this reduces the spead of
using

the IPhone by a Visually impaired when compared to a sighted person?

2013-01-21 Thread ishita kapoor
thank you sunil sir,
i have finally decided to go for samsung chat. but there is not any
key apart from standard keyboard. so please let me know how to make,
recieve or cut perticular calls.
and please let me know what accessibility setting must be done in samsung chat.
thanks...

hi listers, a very long discussion is going on about Samson or other
phones. as I my self using one of those phones, let me write my review
 also.
am using galaxy chat, so far, finding it very good. just like stok
roms, accessibility is very good. I didn't found any unlabled buttons
or icons in it but this problem is there with soni phones for sure as
 have used that one also.
the only disadvantage I found in galaxy chat is that less phone
 memory and less powerful processor
if we install too many applications, performance goes down for sure.
but there is a work around for that.haven't tried that so cant
make any comments for the time being.
and @mr, satguru, apart from enabling accessibility, talkback, web
scripts, we must keep off the auto rotate screen. enable accessibility
shortcuts, and answer/end call threw home and power buttons
settings under accessibility should be on for better handeling the
 phone.
