Subject: From the TalkBack team: TalkBack 4.4.0 beta 1 has been released!

Hello everyone!

As many of you have already noticed, the beta 1 has now been released.

First, I would like to personally thank you for the warm welcome.

Second, I would like to apologize for announcing the beta prematurely,
which left some of you anxious and confused. After the announcement has
been made, we have discovered a few issues that prevented us from releasing
the new version into your hands. So, once again, apologies for this
unexpected delay on our part.

Third, thanks to those of you who took their time to provide constructive
feedback on the new features. We will be looking into the issues you
discovered as soon as possible.

Fourth, please remember that we are physically unable to answer each and
every request that comes through this list, however, we do our best to
follow the discussions and consider your suggestions carefully.

Finally, I wanted to repost the original release notes for those who may
have missed them. After all, it has been more than a week! :)

Hello everyone,

We are happy to announce the first public beta of the next version of
TalkBack, version 4.4.

As always, please keep in mind that installing betas of TalkBack on your
devices should be done at your risk. While we take precautions to ensure
that no serious regressions are introduced, bugs and other unexpected
behavior may happen.

The following are the new features and changes in TalkBack 4.4:

   -

A much requested feature is finally here! It is now possible to export
and import custom labels and then share them with other people. This
feature can be accessed from the TalkBack Settings panel.
   -

The “dim screen” functionality can now be activated in three ways:
   -

      Via global context menu
      -

From inside the TalkBack settings screen
      -

By pressing two volume keys three times quickly (please note, this
shortcut key needs to be enabled first)
      -

   For keyboard users:
   -

It is now possible to resume and suspend TalkBack by pressing
      ALT+SHIFT+Z from an external keyboard

      -

TalkBack’s “navigation settings” can now be cycled through by
      pressing ALT+SHIFT+plus_sign and ALT+SHIFT+minus_sign
      -

When assigning a new keyboard shortcut, the assignment can be
      confirmed with the ENTER key
      -

The speech from TalkBack can now be stopped by pressing the CONTROL
      key on your keyboard
      -

      Other minor improvements.
      -

The TalkBack support for Android TV platform has been significantly
improved. You should now be able to navigate to all of the elements of the
   interface.

Fixes

   -

The dialog for adding custom labels no longer crashes TalkBack on
   Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)
   -

TalkBack should no longer interrupt the speech from self-voicing apps.
   -

   Other minor bug fixes.

We look forward to your feedback and thank you for helping us to further
improve TalkBack!

Best regards,
TalkBack team
