Here just some things I have experienced so far: 1) The whole garbage collector thing can be tricky as BoehmGC doesn't support every OS (although it supports quite a good share) 2) mono isn't always POSIX: e.g. the implementation of semaphores rely on the SysV IPC API which is the standard in Linux (at least I think so), however it is _not_ POSIX
