Hi Phillip
I thought there might be at least some films where a US poster has never been
seen and that MoPo members would know about those. It is certainly the case
with Australian posters. An example is with Dracula 1931. To the best of my
knowledge no Australian poster has ever been seen.
It is a great poster. Did you notice that it has the title “Brighton Rock” in
brackets next to the main title “The Worst Sin”?

What do you use to determine whether there is a poster is known on a
particular title? I mean what source on the internet, what list, what
resource enables one to determine definitively a poster exists for a
film?

Oops, bit embarrassing.
And sadly, title doesn't appear to be a snipe.

I looked at the AFI catalog of US films for the decades 1920 and 1930.
The genre Western lists 1300 for the decade 1920 and 5604 for the decade
1930. It seems clear that no one would know how many posters exist for
those films. I purposely picked a very common genre. Now suppose I

There is no definitve list but, as an example, I am pretty much aware of US
posters that have turned up for Hitchcock films. I'm sure that genre
specific collectors have a very good idea of what has or has not turned up
in their field of interest. That's why I thought people on MoPo might have
Yep, they similarly had that on the quad snipe.
What’s the chance that concealed behind that price ticket graphic (could only

I doubt it. Isn’t it on the British paper for Spellbound that Peck dropped the
razor?

I would echo all that John has said.
It is hard to prove that something doesn't exist. While you can often find
poster images on IMDb or the Internet Movie Poster Database or elsewhere, it
doesn't necessarily mean that the poster itself still exists.
Just as numerous films are presumed lost, so

more. Both of these are actually pretty good. We could start a whole genre!

Very perceptive, Paul. I never thought of it that way, but it’s effing double

Mind if I steer back a bit to daybills John?
Saw this news story recently about auction of some of Attenborough's

At some point during release, Pathe pressed for a shorter cut and a change of

John,
Not to put too fine a point on it, but your query implied two different
questions, at least to me.
Regarding “…I wouldn’t be surprised if something had surfaced on just about
every film post 1930’s…”; that is no doubt true. However, in some cases what
