[MORPHMET] Centroid Size Units

2015-01-09 Thread Michael Holmes
Hello,
I am using 2D GM to examine skull shape and size in rodents. I used Sage
to calculate centroid size based on a millimeter ruler in my photos. What
are the units of centroid size? mm^2? Thanks.

Re: [MORPHMET] Method to stabilise skulls?

2015-01-09 Thread Michael Kenyhercz
Hi Jo,

Generally, three columns of modeling clay are used - two posterior to the
mastoid processes and one between the central incisors (making sure not to
obscure prosthion). Make sure they are tall enough to allow you to digitize
basal features. This way the standard landmarks are not obscured. The
amount of residue transfer is minimal.

Best,
Mike

2015-01-09 Thread Abby Drake
Hi Jo,

I use white play-doh. Colored play-doh may stain the skulls so don't use
it. The play-doh does sometimes stick to the skulls a little but it is
easily rubbed off.

Good luck with your digitizing!

Best Wishes,
Abby

[MORPHMET] January issue of The Anatomical Record

2015-01-09 Thread Claire Terhune
Dear Colleagues-

We are pleased to announce the publication of a special issue of the
Anatomical Record
(http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ar.v298.1/issuetoc) dedicated
to exploring the intersection of functional morphology and
three-dimensional geometric morphometrics. We hope you all will find the
publications included in this issue helpful in your research.

Best wishes,

[MORPHMET] surface semilandmarks

2015-01-09 Thread Ariadne Schulz
Dear All,
I've got about 160 3D scans of human femora and roughly the same of humeri
and before I go off and collect more, I want to collect surface and curve
semilandmarks. I've tried a few methods and looked at some of the papers
out there and I think EVAN toolbox is the way to go, but it takes a lot of
meticulous work and staring at a computer screen. I did try Landmark
Editor, but I'm not convinced that the patches really work on the diaphysis
(they seem to go beneath the surface) and the flexible patch doesn't seem
to export points. Does anyone here know a better method, have a suggestion
or know how to create curve objects that can be imported into EVAN? I can
pretty much use any and all suggestions.

Best Regards,
Ari
