Most children with dyslexia have some working memory issues and difficulty, pulling/putting together sounds. I strongly suggest a specific program such as Wilson or Orton-Gillingham, there are many which break things down bit by bit. I am a special educator and have been working with children with dyslexia for a number of years and have 2 children with a dianosis of dyslexia. Many of these kids have amazing coping systems and have memorized and hidden their disability and then it sort of backfires on them when they get a bit older and have to read longer and more complex material.
