This afternoon around 3:00 I found both a Nelson's Sharp-tailed and a
Le Conte's Sparrow at Cobb River WPA in south central Blue Earth
County. This is the same area from which I reported the late
Henslow's Sparrow yesterday.
I found the birds in the cattails/mixed rushes bordering a large

Late this afternoon, 28 Sept, I observed a juvenile Sabine's Gull on
Cottonwood Lake in Lyon Co. The gull was along the E side of the lake
just N of downtown Cottonwood. There is a park and public access here
adjacent to the Lakeview Ranch Restaurant. I will be posting a photo
later this
The juvenile gray-morph Gyrfalcon found by the North Dakota Birding
Society on the first day of their fall trip to Duluth was observed for
about 15 minutes before it disappeared. It was initially found perched
on the cement wall at the south end of Minnesota Point. Remaining on
the Minnesota
doves in front 16 blue jays out back! I've
never seen so many of either kind at one time. What fun!

Nine sparrow species along Sherburne's Prairie Wildlife Auto Tour this
morning - highlights were a lingering Lark, three Harris' and numerous
Lincoln's - could not find Fox or White-crowned anywhere. 18 sparrow
species for year in/around the refuge (including E. Towhee) - have only
missed
John Ellis called to report a juvenile Sabine's Gull at the Superior
Entry this morning, as well as an adult winter-plumaged Little Gull
with a flock of 21 Bonaparte's Gulls. They were observed from the
end of Wisconsin Point.

30 plus Sandhill Cranes flying high and south over my place
complimented the lovely call of a Phoebe from the trees on the fence line.
Later, while eating lunch we watched a Carolina Wren visit our feeder
several times. It seemed to be saying, Where are the meal worms that

Peder Svingen called to report a Gyrfalcon perched on the rocks on
the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry at about 4:00 pm. Also seen
on the Minnesota side was an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull. A
juvenile Parasitic Jaeger was seen in Wisconsin waters. All of these
observations were made
