Yesterday morning around 11:00am (January 24) I saw flock of white-winged
crossbills noisily feeding in the neighbor's spruce trees. These are the first
I have seen in my area (West Side-just across from downtown).

Around noon today I observed a 1st year Golden Eagle flying along the
MN River bluffs near Ney Nature Center in the northwest tip of Le
Sueur County. As the bird headed north it crossed Hwy. 19 into Scott
County, then interacted with an approaching Bald Eagle. I have posted
a couple photos
I saw several white-winged crossbills this afternoon in Roseville - there
was a large group that was scattered in the spruces along County Road B2
between Dale and Western Ave., a small group near Central Park, and 2 small
groups in spruces along Merrill Street between Howard Johnson Park and
Jim Otto and I travelled to Dodge and Mower counties today in search of the
recently reported Snowy Owls.
The Dodge county Snowy Owl was found in the field to the west of 150 Ave.,
about halfway between 690 St. and 700 St. At first it was on the ground next
to one of the large white posts,

While looking and finding the Snowy Owl in Dodge County this morning I found
White-winged Crossbills roughly a third of a mile north from the
intersection of 150th Avenue and 690th Street.While travelling to the
site, look for a small wind turbine which is located on the east side of
150th.
