Hello All
Should the Gold Crown Sparrow that has over wintered in Duluth be molting
into the handsome adult plumage soon?
Is there any molt present in Brads photos. Thank you Brad for keeping us
updated on this bird.

Also we saw a pair of Tundra Swans that look like they might be interested in
nesting on Stone Lake in the Sax-Zim Bog area. IF they do indeed nest at this
location this would be a first nesting record for the Sax-Zim Bog area. This
area is also part of my Breeding Bird Atlas priority block as
Out guiding today with George King of Georgia.

I wasn't quick enough to get to my camera yesterday, but was able to fire off a
shot (through glass) when I saw the gcsp over lunch today. It's the first photo
that I have of this bird that doesn't have snow in the background.

Kevin and I returned to Florida March 13th - 23rd to photograph birds again.
This time we went to St. Augustine (again!), Kissimmee, and the Panhandle.
The focus of our last trip (December/January) was on Great Blue Herons in
their breeding plumage. The focus this trip was on Snowy and Great Egret
The site is up HW 101 and not HW 169. Sorry about that. Just west of

The Eurasion wigeon was still present this morning at Peterson Lake between
Wabasha and Kellog feeding with a small flock of American wigeons directly
across from the public boat access ramp (County road 24). Also further
downstream in the Mississippi River near Weaver is a large flock of Tundra

Duluth's golden-crowned sparrow was seen twice yesterday: once in the morning,
then again at around 3:30 p.m. I scattered seed on our deck last night and have
seen the bird again today between 12 and 12:30 p.m. This is the first that I
have seen the bird on consecutive days since December.

It was the craziest thing...to see a Downy Woodpecker and a Robin both
picking at the same piece of
suet at the same time..It is in a very accessible place for all the
critters. Even the rabbits hop up the steps to the deck
to get their treats..which was new one me as well.
Thanks all~

I am just curious..I have never had a Robin at my feeders...picking at
seed and eating suet...with
the woodpeckers, sparrows, siskins, finches and squirrels. Aren't they
more of an insect eater? Must like my
homemade woodpecker suet I made.

Surprised to see two Townsend's Solitaires hanging together at Ann Lake/Sand
Dunes Park near Sherburne Refuge on Saturday.
Will monitor to see how long they stay around. One has been observed in the
same general location (right of the first parking lot, one mile in from CR 5)
since October.

I estimated 620 Tundra Swans in a very impressive movement over Ft.
Snelling at 8.30 a.m. this morning--all headed WNW. Fortunately MSP was
very quiet at the time as I'm sure these flocks showed up on radar. Bob
