Sax-Zim was full of birds on Saturday, with a couple of them being very special
for me. Here are the highlights:
I ran into Doug Kieser and Mark Ochs (I believe) at around 10:30 on Owl Ave.
They informed me that they had gotten great views of singing Connecticut

My Minn Birding Weekends group observed a singing male Henslow's

The yellow-breasted chat was re-found at Hyland Park Reserve at 5:15
this afternoon, at a trail intersection north of the visitors (not
nature) center. Though initially approached from the southwest, this
site is more easily accessed from the driveway that leads to the
overflow (Edgewood?) parking
Went to a demo bird banding session at Minneopa S.P. Group Campground
on Saturday. Dr. Merrill Frydendall, the bander, told me he had heard the
Kentucky Warbler last week, so I went with my sons, Alexander and Jesse

I just spoke with Alma Ronningen and the birds visited sporadically
yesterday, never staying long and haven't been seen since this morning
before nine. However, she says that the feeder that they are coming to is
right outside the dining room window, and quite visible from the road or

Alma Ronnigen emailed me this morning to let me know that she has a pair of

opportunity to call her to find out what the rules will be for viewing

Late this morning Bob Ekblad, Diane Anderson, and I watched a Willet

Sunday morning I saw a Mourning Warbler at Cedar Lake and a CT Warbler at
Roberts Sanctuary. Migration seems to definitely tapering off, with e.g.
the only Magnolia Warblers being females. What a lot of Cedar Waxwings this

Hi, Bob,
Can you be more specific about the location? I've hiked the Reserve,
but would need some orientation as to where the site is in relation to
the Richardson Nature Center, or the beach or the south picnic area.
I'd like to try for it this afternoon (Sunday).
Thanks,
Linda Whyte

18 warblers in Mille Lacs County yesterday, including a personal first
county Hooded Warbler at Milaca Hiking Trails. Strongest passerine action

music").

Not one, but two singing yellow breasted chats were present at Hyland
Lake Park Reserve in Boomington this morning. Both could be seen and
heard from the bike trail.
