Many observers saw the earlier-reported Whimbrel this afternoon on both sides
of Blaine Av. just south of 200th or Cty 66 in SE Dakota County, aka Jirik Sod
Farms. It was last seen shortly after 6:00 p.m. (of course minutes before I

My wife and I were surprised to find a Whimbrel at the Jirik Sod Farm today
(7-28-10) at about 12:30. The bird stood out among the other shorebirds with
its larger size and long decurved bill, as well as it overall drab plumage
and crown stripes.

Both male and female purple finches have been showing up in increasing numbers
at our feeders near Avon in Stearns County during the last 6 days. At first,
it
was 4 birds - 2 males, 2 females. Yesterday, there were 8 different birds - 5
males, 3 females.

I saw my first southerly migrant this morning at Carver Park, a
Tennessee Warbler. Otherwise it was fairly quiet at the park. Most
of the Yellow Warbler have left(only 1 seen today). Some of the
Redstarts have departed as they weren't nearly as numerous. Also, I
didn't see a single male Com
Observed 27-Jul and 28-Jul between 7:45am and 8:30am. Both mornings it
was observed at some point flying to, or from a large tree (willow?)
about 50m west of the diversion channel. The bird has also been singing
from trees between the Marshall Golf Club driving range and one of the
course fairways.
While the recent MOU-Net thread on the DNR's introduction of a crane hunting
season has been interesting, it is time to end it. We ask that additional
