Since you couldn't see it, could this bird have been a Nighthawk
instead? (You didn't mention its size at all, but I know nighthawks
have returned to the metro area, and I've seen them hunting that way
around light sources elsewhere.)

The Bell's Vireo(s) by the Excel High Bridge Plant was (were) still
present and singing yesterday afternoon. Another birding friend was
able to hear and see them earlier in the day. I brought my husband
down there in the late afternoon, and despite his hearing loss, he was
able to hear the songs
Really enjoyed seeing Greater Prairie Chickens and Leconte's Sparrows in
addition to an assortment of expected wetland/prairie species near Odessa this
morning. Some area residents seem to think the chickens are doing well and
mentioned seeing them on occasion.

I can't speak to habitat trends in Minnesota for this species, but certainly in
North Carolina and Virginia's mountains where it occurs, it's habitat is
rapidly decreasing. One of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard was

After birding my BBA block in Nicollet county this morning, I decided to
check out some places on the Minnesota River for potential Prothonotary
warblers. I found two:
1. Along the west side of LeSueur county 102 about .5 mile south of
state highway 99. This is about 100 yards south of where

of Pleasant Valley Lakelet that is on the NW side of Co. Rd. 2 near
