Actually the largest concentration of Red-headed Woodpeckers in the
state is at Cedar Creek Natural History Area in northern Anoka County. If
it the mast is plentiful (ie. if there is a good acorn crop) the

Thanks so much for the update. I did go today, and it was extremely quiet, just
some coots, mallards and pied billed grebe. However, I did stop by the refuge
headquarters in Bloomington and was treated to a red-tailed hawk. It's

worth stopping by, as he's apparently been in the area
I was driving past Purgatory Creek today and saw a ton of gulls. I'm pondering
visiting on Monday afternoon, but am curious if anyone has birded here
recently,
and if so what kinds of gulls might be out there?

I arrived at Sax-Zim Bog this afternoon around 3:30pm, and birdwatched
until sunset. The first bird I saw in the bog was a gorgeous Northern
Shrike perched on a power line. One of the biggest highlights of the
evening was seeing three Trumpeter Swans swimming and feeding on Stone
Lake. They were se

Recent sightings Wed., the 3rd (after an airport drop-off),trail- ponds near
Hwy77bridge to Old Cedar: Sharp-shinned Hawk chasing up a whole flock of Robins
in the buckthorn and nearly crashing into me, Northern Shrike, Amer.Tree

To Bass Ponds: take Hwy 77 south of 62 or 495 to the Old Shakopee Road
exit. Turn left (east) and go about 3/4 mile. See brown sign on right and
turn right, bearing left down the hill to the noisy parking place. Walk
downhill.
On Wednesday, there were no shorebirds on the river mud at the open
