Actually the largest concentration of Red-headed Woodpeckers in the state is at Cedar Creek Natural History Area in northern Anoka County. If it the mast is plentiful (ie. if there is a good acorn crop) the woodpeckers will overwinter. I have not yet heard what to expect this winter. Usually, t

Thanks so much for the update. I did go today, and it was extremely quiet, just some coots, mallards and pied billed grebe. However, I did stop by the refuge headquarters in Bloomington and was treated to a red-tailed hawk. It's definitely worth stopping by, as he's apparently been in the area
