While out today along the North Shore of Lake Superior as well as birding
in Sax-Zim Bog, a push of mid-winter specialties continues provide great
looks. The two birders I was guiding around today were thrilled to see

watched an immature male King Eider in Lake Superior about 1/2 mile NE
of the Lakewood Pumping Station, Duluth (Lakewood Rd. and Scenic 61). It
was diving frequently, and was associating closely with 3 Common
Goldeneyes and 1 Red
Saw a Great Grey Owl hunting about 3-3:30 PM this afternoon on Lismore
Road just west of Ryan. He was sitting on a 12 foot snag just off the
shoulder of the road working an open field. Saw him go down in the nearly
foot deep snow and nail a mouse or vole with his claws while looked around
