Over nearly 5 hours at Rapids Lake MVNWR I was able to find 70 species. I
covered the south loop, Rapids Lake trail, and hunting areas west of Rapids
Lake. Since this past Thursday(birded each day) at Rapids Lake I found a total
of 81 species. On the mammal side of things, I saw my first

I searched for the Eurasian Widgeon at Purgatory Creek in Eden Prairie from
around 8:00 to 10:00 this morning, but did not find it. There were fifteen to
twenty other birders there during the same time. To the best of my knowledge
none of them found the bird either.

Today at Crane Lake, east of Ridgedale Mall and on the south side of 394, I
found a single Trumpeter Swan. There was also around 100 ducks and geese but it
was strange to see just one swan.

There were at least two short eared owls putting on a good show of hunting
at Carlos Avery. They could be seen from both sides of the levy that is
gated off during hunting season. Mostly hunting the marsh to the east.
They made a number of passes within 40 feet of where I was sitting.
