Went looking for the gyrfalcon in superior today, but with no luck. Maybe
tomorrow! We stopped at the Barker's island bridge at 4 pm and found the
common eider resting on the ice next to a male and female mallard alongside
the bridge. There was a mixed flock of mallards, Canada geese and an

Paynesville: WTP's are still frozen - open only a little around the
edges. Most of the wetlands along Hwy. 23 are as well, but there are some
open spots - all have Canada Geese and mallards in them. No other
waterfowl species...yet. Also saw a male northern harrier west of the
WTP's.
Lake
It has been great early March birding this past week in Carver County. Each
day this past week has yielded a first of year species for me. That's not
particularly difficult, since I spend so little time out during the winter
months and Carver County is not exactly a hotbed for birds during
Saw a male and female American Wigeon this evening in some open water.
Very nervous and then flew around and around high overhead.
Nice to see something other than a Mallard.
