Late this afternoon a N. Shrike was perusing the thickets on the north side
of the lake at Rachel Lilly Preserve (Mendota Heights). It was perched at
the top of a deciduous tree, but soon moved to another, before dropping
rapidly into the thicket out of site. Presumably it was chasing prey; its

Eleven White-winged Crossbills were present today at about 2:30 along the east
side of the
conifer plantation on Blue Hills Trail. Also found 1 each Ruffed Grouse, Bald
Eagle, Red-
tailed Hawk, Downy Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Brown

Writing this while at the rum river dam location. As far as I know the Mottled
Duck did not make an appearance all day (Last sighting seemed to be around four
yesterday, I had it in the morning) . The last of usable light is fading and
all but thirty of the duck flock is gone. This is
On County Rd. #45, south of Owatonna & 1/4 mile north of Steele Center ...
25 - 30 American Robins were seen along the road shoulder.

At the risk of posting too often to this site I want to say that I went to the
Anoka Dam this morning hoping to see the Mottled duck that was reported. There
were a number of birders that I saw but no one that I know of saw the mottled
duck but I was delighted to see two black Ducks and when
As of 12:20pm no luck re-finding the Mottled Duck.
A lone Green-winged Teal and a couple of Black Duck were present.
And many birders as well.
I live about 5 or 6 blocks from the dam so I will try to keep a daily vigil.
