Things are starting to wake up in Morrison County. I had a flock of 50 Redwing
Blackbirds South of Bowlus and more and more Geese and Swans are showing up
South of the Little Falls Dam. The water North of the dam is starting to break
up
which usually results in a large amount of water fowl. I

I can't let the day end without saying that I've just
witnessed one of the most miraculous displays of
migrating ducks and geese in my life, spanning the
breadth of the river valley and as far north and south on
the
Red-winged Blackbirds are back in Roseville's Central Park.

My sister, Mary Hess, reported hearing a killdeer this afternoon at the site of
the old Ford Plant in Highland Park.

This week looks to set records with weather and bird sightings. Yesterday from
Enger Tower in Duluth with the Hawk Watchers we observed close to 200 BALD
EAGLE, 3 GOLDEN EAGLE, a very early adult RED-SHOULDERED HAWK,
GYRFALCON 5
There are at least a couple of Greater White-fronted Geese feeding in a
cornfield next to some water on 20th Ave, a mile or two north of Main St. This
is north of Centerville. There are a few hundred Canada Geese, too.

Hi
I took a walk across the Dam again this morning at around 8:30 and saw a red
head up close to the walkway as well as several scaup. I also saw ring necked
ducks but didn’t get any photos and bufflehead. I followed four of them up and
down the river trying to get close but only got
Mountain Bluebird was present at 9am today.
I arrived at about 845 and found it within 15 minutes.
It was gleaning the fields with a single male Eastern Bluebird in the middle
of the field per the previous reports.

Things still pretty frozen but thawing fast. Roughed-legged Hawks still at
Hamden Slough but have been joined by Northern Harriers. Trumpeter Swans and
Canada Geese streaming north but so far mostly standing on ice. Spring is
here!
