Here’s a video I did this fall from the Brownsville, MN area (Pool 8 on the
Mississippi River) highlighting Tundra Swans.

but we are about 15
miles west of the Big Muddy. I have not seen them at any of our feeders (inc.
mealworm feeder).
Thought I would share this info with anyone who may be following the patterns
of these birds.

For your armchair birding pleasure, here's a video I just completed
highlighting the Tundra Swans near Brownsville, MN this past autumn.
The video is on YouTube and if you can experience it in 4k resolution if
you have a monitor or TV that supports it.
Tundra Swan numbers are increasing on Pool 8 of the MS. I would estimate
8,000 to 10,000. The Brownsville Overlook had a lot of Tundra Swans
today with a lot of fly-in activity. There were also 10 adult Trumpeter
Swans and 6 cygnets. This year is looking better than last year's
numbers. As
during this
time of year, but never to this extent. My speculation is that food is
in abundance right now and that most birds are feeding naturally. Last
year due to a late freeze we had very little (if any) tree nuts, but
this year nuts are in abundance.

Since we're on the subject of strange weather causing strange things,
last night after the rain ended I went out to check the rain gauge at
10pm. It was 58 degrees and a tree frog was clinging to our front
door...in February.
Also, a friend of ours also in Houston County had an American
ud:

I went to see the Clark's Nutcracker yesterday and it was present the
entire time at two different addresses:
24092 and 24185 County Road 9. It seemed content to stay in that area.
I have posted a number of photos and a video on my website:

There are a pair of Dark-Eyed juncos feeding right outside my window
right now along with a Lincoln's Sparrow. I guess the winter birds are
starting to arrive.

Looks like another storm is on its way. How about a cure for cabin
fever? Here's a series of images and video (taken last summer) of
Prothonotary Warblers that nest along the Mississippi River in SE MN and

For those of you who may not have been able to view the Tundra Swans on
Pool 8 of the Mississippi, I have compiled a video of the swans:

You can view it directly on Vimeo, but if you download the video to your
pc it will be higher resolution and plays better. To do
out the chorus of frogs so that you can hear the sparrow better:

Very strange... I have had a few Pine Siskins that have stuck around
since Winter but this afternoon there must be hundreds of Pine Siskins
in the trees nearby. The sound of iii... is everywhere. I have
never seen/heard so many Pine Siskins and usually they are gone by April.

This afternoon I was treated to the sights and sounds of 11 Trumpeter
