mine.
Anyway. Two months of rest and rehab and hopefully I can get back in the field.

Subject: Hooded Warbler
I was able to locate the Hooded Warbler at Lebanon Hills this morning around
7:00
Spent two hours this morning looking for warblers and vireos but was unable to
make out anything other than a couple redstarts and a common yellowthroat.
I give up and may just wait till fall when perhaps leaves will fall from the
trees. Apparently I'm doing something wrong.

I saw what appeared to be a flock of 20 Lapland Longspurs at North Mississippi
Regional Park in North Minneapolis. Everything fits except that these guys
have mostly black napes, not the rufous most often seen in pics and field
guides. Anyone seen this variation before? I did manage to find
Thanks to Matt Dufort I now know that these were indeed Harris Sparrows, not
Laplands. Can't believe I missed that one in my Sibley. Brian

Found FOY Black and White, Orange Crowned and Common Yellowthroat Warblers
today. Also a probable Golden-Winged. Plus a couple LBJs I didn't recognize
and am in no postion to try to name. I also keep hearing a call that sounds
like a croaky, maybe slightly defective old fashioned steam
I'm wondering if this rather cool animation of wind direction and speed in the

I provided a link to this yesterday but found it so helpful that I decided to

On my way home today stopped to look at a hawk perched on a street light at
I-94 East and Dupont Ave N.
It was either a juvenile Broad-Winged Hawk or a Ferruginous Hawk. And unless
it somehow learns English and screams I'm a Ferruginous Hawk!, while wearing
a placard indicating so, there is
Thanks all. Am rather embarrassed that I didn't stop to consider the time of
year. That and I could not find a single image of totally white breasted red
tail.
Ill think harder next time.

Saw the Solitaire on 12/24 at Carpenter Nature Center around 2:00. It was
above the first bench past the observation point on the Savanna Trail.
It was the most helpful bird. I heard its call as it perched in the same spot
roughly 15 feet off the ground for maybe one minute, giving me a
Upsetting to hear this again. Does anyone have any idea why they are being
driven this far south and in such poor condition?

I visit Old Cedar bridge at least a couple times a week and have had good luck
there. Not so much luck with some of the water birds though as I don't own a
