10-second view of the bird this morning, but that took some time and effort to
do. It's much easier to hear than see.

During the pandemic, the MOU
At the top of a tall spruce tree in front of Fridley Middle School. This is
just west of the intersection of 61st Ave. and W. Moore Lake Dr, and across the
street from Fridley High School. The bird was very cooperative and stayed the
10 minutes I was there. This was around 1:00 p.m.

I saw a Surf Scoter on Centerville Lake today between noon and 1:00. It was at
the northeast end of the lake near Main Street. It was with a small flock of
Ruddy Ducks.

Prothonotary Warbler heard and then seen on Foster Island at Miss. West
Regional Park on June 4th. The park is south of Hwy 10 along Traprock St. The
bird could be viewed on the west side of Foster Island near the boat ramp.

The park can be accessed traveling west along US Hwy 10 by taking the first
left turn past Ramsey Blvd.

to the northwest, but you need to cross a steep ravine to get
to it, and the trail is very wooded with not the best viewing opportunities. I
was able to see the duck both from this informal trail and the paved hiking
trail.

branches to the west, and
then take that west a short distance and you'll be at the backwater area. The
birds were last seen moving north where there's an informal trail blocked by a
fallen tree.

the area where the informal trail intersects the main trail. This is at the
southern end of a relatively large stand of tall white pines. The bird is
either a first-year male or a female.

north and south along the lake. It was last seen close to the trail about
midway into the area with the white pines.
A male Black-throated Blue warbler was also seen at the south end of the
trail in the area with the white pines. Maybe something else to look and
listen for.

Not too unusual to find stray warblers by this time in July, but I seldom
find mixed species traveling together until sometime in August. This is
also only my second July sighting of a N. Parula in the metro area.

There were at least three singing Henslows Sparrows today at Afton State
Park in Washington County. They were in the large field at the northern end
of the park south of 50th Street. This seems to be a reliable spot for
them, and I wouldnt be surprised if they nested here.
