Saw some FOY Hooded Mergansers on the Mississippi off the Dayton boat ramp

I'll have to keep my eyes open! We have sometimes seen one during the
winter but never for an extended time. I think they are such cute little
things. Fingers crossed!

I don't know Purgatory Creek; is it part of the Purgatory Park in
Minnetonka, or near the Purgatory Creek Park Pavilion in Eden Prairie?
Where is the best place to park and to view? Thanks!

Thanks, Steve and Laura - that information is really helpful, especially

Unfortunately, we have had cowbirds in our backyard every summer for years.
Same with grackles, who turned up a few days ago. No cowbirds yet, though -
at least I haven't spotted any. On the other hand, we seem to have had
fewer starlings in recent summers than previously. Knock wood. ;-)

Noticed some movement in the backyard this morning, and was delighted to
see a beautiful pair of ring-necked pheasants poking around. The male
chased the female a bit and she ran off; don't know if he was trying to get
lovey-dovey or just being territorial. He eventually moved off in the
opposite
FOY. We had sandhills land yesterday near the pond across the street! In
Otsego, Wright County.
