Both today and yesterday, single Mississippi Kites were seen over Hawk Ridge,
Duluth. Yesterday's bird remained relatively high up and far out on the
lakeside, into the sun, showing very little in the way of plumage details
(though whitish in the upper secondaries was briefly seen). Today's bird,
however,?came over relatively closer on the ridge side?and allowed fairly brief
but excellent looks, showing both white in the upper secondaries and barring in
the tail, indicating subadult plumage. This bird was identifiably photographed
by Andrew Longtin. Both birds continued south and are presumed to be different
individuals.
