Friends of Sax-Zim Bog has purchased 40 acres of Black Spruce-Tamarack bog to be preserved for future generations of naturalists, photographers and birders!
The tract is 5 miles west of Cotton at the SW intersection of CR52 Arkola Road and CR755 Peary Road. This will be a great place to see/hear some bog specialties including Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Boreal Chickadee, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Blackburnian Warbler and more. In winter Great Gray Owl, Gray Jay, and White-winged Crossbill have been recorded. Please let us know what you find there as this site has only been lightly birded. We hope to build a bog boardwalk at this site in the future so we can all easily access this amazing habitat. Funds for this project were from private donations and a grant from the MN DNR's Conservation Partners Legacy program. Thanks to all!
