This afternoon from 4:00-6:00 p.m. I watched a female Ruff at the Bass
Ponds. She was hanging out with Lesser Yellowlegs, Wilson's Phalaropes,
White-rumped, Least, and Semipalmated Sandpipers (5 avocets were
nearby). This is a different bird from the one found by Steve Carlson
two weeks ago, but it is in about the same area as that one was
initially (south of the beaver pond and stream). From the main upper
parking lot off 86th St., walk down the hill on the road to the lake.
Bear left, then take the well-traveled path through the woods to the
open flats where many people viewed the previous Ruff. The bird was
fairly close (150-200 yards), but a scope is necessary. She was still in
the same general location when I left at 6:00.
