On my way home from work in Canby this evening driving northbound on LqP CR 11,
turning
west onto Lqp CR 12, I caught a glimpse of a white crow-sized bird in my
high-beams flying
low through the ditch westbound along CR 12; as I accelerated, the bird pivoted
and crossed
my path approximately 20 feet in front of my truck, at which point I hit the
brakes and nearly
spinned out: I only saw it in front of me for a second or two, but there is no
mistaking a Barn
Owl in your high-beams. Clearly saw cylindrical body, black eyes, white
undersides of wings.

At this crossroads sits an abandoned farmstead; derelict barn (nearly
collapsed) and
unoccupied house with a nice grove around it and plentiful marshland/CRP in all
directions.

My Dad knows a close relative of the landowner. If it is at all possible to
explore the site, I will
post further info and see about staking it out.
