At 10:30 p.m. this evening I found the first-of-year Henslow's Sparrow singing
in Wild River State Park. I was getting a little concerned as this is 4 days
later than last year and last year was a very late arrival. I was finishing up
a Minnesota Frog and Toad Calling Survey route in the area
During a morning owl survey in Wild River State Park today, I heard a
first-of-year Henslow’s Sparrow calling in the Park. The bird was singing at
6:00 a.m. in the very frosty prairie (28 degrees). This is only 1 day early
from the earliest arrival over the previous 5 years that I have
