>From 4:45 to 8:30 pm today (minus a 20 minute gap from 7:45 to 8:05 pm) I counted 9,490 Common Nighthawks migrating over my yard two miles southwest of Two Harbors in Lake County. They were counted with a handheld "clicker" for the first two hours until there got to be too many to tally individually (and my thumb was sore). I counted in multiples of five after that.
Given all the MOU-net and eBird reports from Duluth today, it looks like this might be the peak nighthawk migration day this fall. Here are some cumulative counts throughout my count: 2,686 at 5:32 pm 5,889 at 6:30 pm 7,320 at 6:56 pm 9,490 at 8:30 pm Jim Lind Two Harbors ---- Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
