Drew Smith, Tony Hertzel, and I have been studying this bird for the past hour and we are convinced it is a Mottled Duck. We have had excellent looks at all the field marks and have seen no signs of hybridization with Mallard. The bird is currently sitting on the ice on the south side of the

15 Feb 16, Rum River Dam, Anoka. MODU candidate album Dark but with warm caramel tones, black gape, unmarked throat, narrow white bars around speculum, etc. Not perfect though, e.g. a bit more face streaking than I’d like. Really stood out from nearby group of black
