There were respectable numbers of shorebirds present in Redwood county today.
15 Avocets, nearly 300 American Golden Plovers, over 200 Dowitchers, a single
Willet plus others.

There is plenty of standing water around, but the following areas produced the
most shorebirds:

North of Sanborn: one mile north of US14 on US71, go west one mile to the
intersection of a Laser Ave and 140th St. The flooded fields in this area held
the Avocets and most of the Golden Plovers.

The flooded fields at the intersection on county roads 4 and 5. This is seven
miles north of Walnut Grove.

The flooded fields along a 1.5 mile stretch of Aspen Ave north of county road
4. This is 5 miles south of Milroy and one mile west.

The Willet was found in a small flooded area on the east side of Jade Ave about
a mile north of county road 26(150th St). This is just north of the Lamberton
WMA.

Note that there were no “peeps” found at all today.

Also present in the county today were two Peregrine Falcons(one at the Willow
Lake WMA in Wanda, the other at the Lamberton WMA) and a single Swainson’s Hawk
also at the Lamberton WMA.
