It was a great day for migration in Duluth yesterday (29 March), with
temperatures hitting 47 degrees and light south winds. A group of us counted
raptor migration from the West Skyline Hawk Count, including Dave Carman, Frank
Nicoletti, and Jane Hosking, resulting in 505 raptors for the day, including 4
Turkey Vultures, 417 Bald Eagles, 3 Sharp-shinned Hawks, 1 Northern Goshawk, 47
Red-tailed Hawks, 24 Rough-legged Hawks, 5 Golden Eagles, and 1 Merlin. Large
flocks of Bohemian Waxwings totaling 1598 individuals were also seen. Other
migrants in the immediate Duluth harbor included 4 Great Blue Herons, 1 Ross's
Goose, 17 Hooded Mergansers, 2 Lesser Scaup, and 2 Blue-winged Teal.
