I doubt that, Glenn. I don’t think that it was alive when another birder and I
retrieved the gull. I transported it to the WRC. Please note my eBird post
for more details.

Perhaps it was aspergillosus, which has killed some of the lower-48 Ivory
Gulls.

Would lead poisoning be a possibility? I hope we get necropsy results
eventually. So sad.

It seemed to be doing fine yesterday, including foraging for food on the
shoreline. Another photographer had a shot with it eating a small fish. With
such a rapid decline, I wonder if it was accidental poisoning...I am assuming
an autopsy is being considered.
So sad as it was such a handsome,
Terribly sad news. Was it probably due to lack of food-finding in a habitat
it doesn't come from?
I'm reminded of the barn owl in January 2020 down in Zim, MN that weakened
and died in front of a flock of birdwatchers. Then the ivory gulls that
came to the Duluth lakefront in early January 2016;

Because I know there’s still many folks who haven’t had the chance to chase the
Ross’s Gull, the bird continues as of 8:40am today! The bird is back under the
bridge. It was not seen before 8:40am, however, so some patience may be
required if it decides to do one of its notorious forays out of
There was a group of us—15-20 people—watching it when I arrived around 4:15.
We were right at the end of Orange St in Prescott. It was right alone the
shore. Easily seen with naked eye. A few minutes later it flew to a dock on the
Minnesota side of the river fairly close to the US Hwy 10
The Ross's Gull was still there this afternoon, when I was there ~1 pm.
The bird did a nice flyby during my time there, after having been resting
along the WI shore for a while. Here is a photo I got, if interested.

Bird is being super-cooperative! Easy to see well right now and hanging around

Update: around 4:50pm the gull flew over a few of us and landed on the water
way out from the north side of the bridge. No photos unfortunately.

A handful of folks were able to view the bird, where it perched on the
shoreline. However, it has not been seen for the past 30 minutes. It was last
seen flying to the south, out of sight past the orange buoys. I just arrived.
Apparently it flew to the south once before and came back, so
