[mou-net] ducks and more

2018-04-08 Thread Elizabeth Tiller (Beth)
Many thousands of ducks on Lake Pepin. In particular, lots of lesser scaup,
ring-necks, canvasback and a smattering of buffleheads, hooded mergansers,
common mergansers (where I was near Lake City rest area

A flock of perhaps two dozen Fox Sparrows at Frontenac (Hill Ave. on south edge)

One great egret, a couple great blue herons and about a dozen Hooded Mergansers
at the Bay Point Marina Park in Red Wing.

[mou-net] Puffin beaks

2018-04-08 Thread Steve Weston
Did you know that if you shine UV light on Puffin beaks they shine like
glow sticks? To test this they had to protect the Puffin eyes with special
"sun glasses". Check this out:

[mou-net] Sandhill Crane Count this Saturday

2018-04-08 Thread Steve Weston
The upper Midwest Sandhill Crane Count is this Saturday at first light. If
you are interested, let me know and I can get you more details and/or put
you in touch with a county count coordinator. It helps, if you already know
a location where cranes nested last year or have settled in this year. I do
know that we do have some locations around Dakota County that I do not have
covered yet.
