I received a report that 3 owls were spotted hunting at about 5:10pm
tonight. They were found at my original location when I posted a couple of
weeks back. McKenna road runs parallel to the east of Canterbury Road.
There is a roundabout on the south side and a road that heads to the east.

2. Last night I found a short eared owl hunting at 4:55pm near the SMSC
recycling facility off Canterbury road S on the south side of 169. There is
a road that leads to the facility and others refound it tonight at

same spot that I reported the short eared owls last winter. They hang near
the roundabout on Tintaocanka Lane between 21 and McKenna Road. Nesting
here. Saw female carrying food yesterday. Lots of other sparrows here as
Chads chat looks to be gone. Several birders late morning yesterday and
others and I this morning cannot see or hear it.

According to Ebird, first time reported. Only a few people on MOU
records have Henslow's for Waseca. Heard 2 in a small field S of County
Road 22 between 150th and 160th Streets. Field was a lot bigger before it
was mowed. Grasshopper, Savannah, Dickcissels and Bobolinks also present.

I was looking for potential Icelands and thayers. One gull was next to a

Originally found by Cara Cox last night. I went but it flew off. Present
this morning in field and trees south of Marsh WMA. This small field is
apparently private. The shrike is viewable on anberdeen road to the west.
It looks to be gathering twigs. Now that I am typing this I see its mate.

Only Janssen and Cahlander have it ticked. I did the bonanza loop trail at
big stone lake state park and heard crow mobbing and went to investigate at
the furthest part of the loop i heard the hawk vocalizing many times at 7
to 10 second clips. Heard only but with the crows mobbing it and unlikely
Andy nyhus recorded the county record last year at little rock lake. I
found adult and young on the north end of the lake in the frisbee golf
course just north of the algaed pond. No one else posted it last year

Birding with Pete Nichols and Ben Douglas. We were at lake side park in
forest lake. There is a White House with blue shutters With a grassy hill
towards the water. House seen while looking to south east. Goose had short
neck and appeared smaller than the canadas. Simply too far to see bill

I am standing on 7th street off of 61 just short of Laura lane. At least
the sign at the Laura lane intersection says 7th. When looking at Laura
lane from here there is a lake 200E sign

It flew so I drive into town as I still saw some white from the park. I saw
it again at Lola's boat launch near shore to the west. Crows were next to
it and the gull was much larger and I did confirm the large bill. An eagle
stirred it up and it flew again. Lost site if it.

Clear lake. Associating with mixed raft of other ducks. I am viewing from
the bottom of the hill near the shore in maple wood park. The access point
where I am standing is west of the shelter that is on the top of the hill.

I was finally able to find a scoter in my home county late this afternoon.
It was at Quarry Lake Park in Shakopee. This may be the only large open
water besides blue lake treatment plant and the mn river in the county. The
park is actually not open yet. It is a brand new park opening soon. It is

I have been stopping at that park in the evening often in the last week or
so. Large flocks would stop for awhile and eventually leave southerly to

Swan lake wma. I walked the conifer stand to the west of the main parking
lot and flushed an assumed owl. I then walked to the end of it and the owl
was in the grass and flew probably towards the stand again. I assume it
will hunt tonight if the wind dies down. For now I will let it rest. Only

pond on county road 21 that intersects 42. I am seeing no sign of hybrid. I

Singing male. Trilling first heard and initially thought it was a chipping
sparrow, so I continued onto the water to scope waterfowl. On way back I
played the pine warbler tape to make sure and did some phishing. There is a

While looking for collard doves in Eyota. I found a mockingbird hopping in
someone's front yard at house number 27 on NE North Front street NW. This
is west of the grain elevators and parallel to 14 in the residential area
to the south. A robin eventually chased it to the backyard

I was going to update my county numbers after I refound the Carolina wren
at Fort Snelling. My Hennepin increased by one which is should have. I
also noticed my Redwood county increased by 2 and my Lyon county increased
by 1. The ebird import must have just happened in the last 24 hours or
so.
My Facebook county Lister group struck out on the Eaglesnest solitaire

I was told that cops are going to be ticketing and towing people who park
at the bottom of the hill near the garden center or in front of the road
close signs so you need to find a spot to park up the hill I am parked at

Reminder and change of plans:
Due to yet another Winter storm in this winter from hell, the Nicollet
portion on Sunday is canceled. Snow expected there by 1930am. I will
rethink the plan for Saturday and maybe do a Nicollet/ Sibley on all the
same day. I was hoping to concentrate on ducks for

Anyway, I finished with 67 species between the two counties. Highlights
were the Nicollet Ross' Goose, Short eared owl in Nicollet, and as many as
two long eared owls in Sibley.

A single individual is at the Armstrong restoration project my car was
parked facing north almost to the end of the deep water on the right hand
side of the road the bird was on the left side and extreme distance to the
left of a strip of green cattails. It’s appears to be the first county
record

I followed up on an ebird report from yesterday by Judith Mikolai. I was
able to refind it from Beach Road which is on the south end of Long Lake
which is part of Long Lake Park in New Brighton. This appears to be a
first county record.
