Black-capped Chickadee
Red-breasted Nuthatch
European Starling
American Goldfinch
We tried hard for the Boreal Chickadees at the Admiral Rd feeders, but had
no luck. We also dipped on the Evening Grosbeaks at the Blue Spruce Rd
feeders.

while the mouse
squirmed in its talons, the owl then absconded across the road into some
conifers to eat its meal. One boreal owl that won't be hungry this evening!
A very cool end to a very cool weekend!

The completely ice-free Snelling Lake in Fort Snelling State Park continues
to have a nice variety of birds on it. Highlights from a short visit this
morning were Horned Grebe, Red-necked Grebe, Osprey, and lots and lots of
Common Loons. My complete list is below:
Canada Goose
Northern Shovel

I was just at the MN Valley National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and
there were 4 female Yellow-headed Blackbirds visiting the feeder. Also,
White-throated, White-crowned, and Harris's Sparrows in addition to the
usual suspects.
The area down the hill from the visitor center was crawling with w
ementioned records that
are in eBird, plus a record from 11-6-2010 in Crow Wing County. Otherwise,
the latest record for GWWA is 10-14.
If anyone is out there searching for the White-eyed Vireo, please keep your
eyes (and camera shutters) out for a very late Golden-winged Warbler!

the fence.

The Snow Geese reported by David Zumeta are still present at 6:15pm. They
are on the Hennepin side of the island and currently best viewed from the
top of the bluff by using the road/sidewalk behind the Minnesota Veterans
Home. With the change in winds tonight, maybe they'll stick around.
were there at sundown today, so hopefully they'll stick around
a bit for more people to see tomorrow. I'll be posting pictures on the
Minnesota Birding facebook group if anyone wants to take a look.

The redpolls in downtown Minneapolis are definitely mostly Commons, with a
very small number of Hoaries mixed in.

It was accessible yesterday by car or bike, even though they were doing
work on the road. I saw many people go past the construction and down to
the parking lot.

For the next Minnesota Global Birders event Gregg Severson will give a

Farther east, Boreal Chickadees can be found somewhat south of their normal
range as a rarity on a somewhat regular basis. For example, looking at
eBird data, Massachusetts had had a Boreal Chickadee in 3 out if the last
four years. In 2019 there was one in New Jersey. In 2011, there was one
