Wilson's Phalaropes and Franklin's Gull were encountered along Wabasha Co. Rd
84 in semi-flooded fields and among other shorebirds (Greater Yellowlegs,
Lesser Yellowlegs, Wilson's Snipe, Killdeer) and the Marbled Godwit was seen in
the location where the Hudsonian Godwit was previously reported
, and a Blackpoll
Warbler (La Crosse, WI). Also, a FOY Warbling Vireo. Clay-colored Sparrow's
have arrived. Shepard's Marsh- La Crescent.

Observed bird standing along shoulder of I494 on-ramp at I35E/I494 interchange
(south and eastbound) at approximately 8 pm. Bird then flew and landed atop
yellow merging traffic sign. Seems to be in close proximity to MSP Int.
Airport.

Not yet in Minnesota, but approximately 8 miles south in Allamakee County, Iowa
along the Upper Miss- a mixed flock of about 300 males, both adult and first
spring birds. It is difficult to find much open water along the Mississippi
River in Houston County, but likely to change soon.

Hundreds of Broad-winged Hawks, singles and small kettles circling to the
northwest for about two hours this afternoon, plus a dozen Ospreys, a few
Sharp-shinned Hawks, and a Peregrine Falcon north of Rochester.

This evening at dusk in Shepards Marsh, La Crescent I saw a flock of 16
Black-crowned Night Herons circling over the city in tight formation,
vocallizing a hoarse bark, gaining altitude and heading to the northwest. It
was a nice surprise.

Alex Johnson of Rochester and I located a Hermit Thrush in Reno State Forest,
Houston County during early afternoon along with a Winter Wren.

Both sides of US Highway 14, east of St. Charles (43.970, -92.001): spotted
sandpipers, least sandpipers, lesser yellowlegs, pectoral sandpipers, solitary
sandpipers, killdeer, semipalmated plovers, and maybe others. 100+ birds in
flooded cornfield with extensive mudflat.

Kentucky Warbler refound upstream of earlier posting this morning where there
is a logjam and other debris blocking the stream. The bird flew downstream and
is likely near original posted location. Was spotted from trail on west side.

One bird along Mower Co Rd 2, northwest of Dexter. Hunting along the roadside

We received nearly 8 inches of fresh snow late Monday night and into Tuesday
morning, and with the cool temps the ponds and backwaters remain frozen. The
only significant open water is the main navigation channel, raft channel (state
border line), and small creeks and delta areas. At Wildcat
Also, I would say to check the MN Loon Monitoring Program data but I don't
think juvenile designation on the form refers to sub-adult birds. Maybe there

The first few flocks that I'm aware of arrived on the 16th, and a count this
afternoon numbered about 120 birds. Still a few weeks from peak numbers, but
they are arriving. High water has made access to the Reno Spillway difficult,
but levels are quickly falling. A lot of Canvasbacks and
