This was just a block down from home, the bird stripping dead bark from one of 
a pair of dying spruces at the corner of 1st Avenue and Pine Street near the 
school bus garage. Busy, with yellow crown patch and three-toed foot easy to 
discern, and trusting of an observer with an armload of skis and mail.
Crossbills, not sure which species, had flown over localizing seconds before. 
They have been in the area for a few days now but I have yet to get a sighting.
