[mou-net] Tufted Titmouse, SE Anoka Co

2022-08-15 Thread Holly Peirson
On Saturday, we had several looks at a tufted titmouse, as it visited our black
oiler feeders. We didn't see it again on Sunday.

We are very familiar with them as we frequently visit family in the Lower
Peninsula of Michigan where they are regular.

Neat siting, and definitely new for OUR yard list! Now I have to read up to see
if they disburse widely after nesting. Hmmm...

Yesterday there was a single titmouse in my backyard. It was visiting my
feeders, water and suet. I saw it up close for about an hour. No sighting
today.

I know there have been reports in Eagan and IGH. I have been on the lookout
for one for many years. Yesterday, this new yard bird, was #100. Modest list,
but I live in "downtown" Eagan.

Any ideas about attracting them? What do they like to eat?

I still can't believe I finally had one in my yard!

Happy to report,
Larry and Jan

Just had a Tufted Titmouse at our yard feeders. It initially ate from the suet
cage then went to the sunflowers.

It's the third time we've had one visit (well, that I've observed). The first
time was from October 2008 into January 2009. The second time was just a quick
visit to the feeders on September 16, 2015. Today, so far, is also a quick
visit to the feeders.

I birded Simon’s Ravine (South St. Paul, Dakota County) with friends this
morning, where a Tufted Titmouse sang loudly and persistently. We first heard
it, then saw it, at 9:00 a.m., approximately 300 meters up the ravine from 19th
Ave N. On our way back down the ravine, it was singing near 19th Ave N and
Conver Ave. It’s probably best to park at the Simon’s Ravine Trailhead, on
Concord Street, just south of Butler Ave (immediately south of the bike &
pedestrian overpass), then walk up the ravine on the paved trail, which goes
underneath 19th Ave N. This is the general area where a Tufted Titmouse was
found on the most recent St. Paul Christmas Bird Count.

Hi,

I tried posting this earlier but for some reason it didn't go through. Anyway,
there's a somewhat out of range Tufted Titmouse visiting the feeders at the
home of Floyd & Carol Alwin in New Ulm. I saw it this morning off and on
between 8:00 and 8:45 a.m. Floyd said that he first noticed it on Monday the
16th and that it was a bird that they've never had at their feeders before.
Their home is along the boundary with Flandrau State Park. To my knowledge,
the last sighting of a Tufted Titmouse in Brown County was also in New Ulm in
December, 2003. Floyd said that birders are more than welcome to try for the
bird but he asks that you please call him first. Their phone number is
507-354-2036 and their address is 26 Camelsback Rd., New Ulm.

[mou-net] Tufted Titmouse--- 9 Mile Creek, Hennepin County

2015-05-15 Thread MOU admin
(Posted by Andrew D. Smith drew...@aol.com via moumn.org)

A couple of observers I met on the trail today asked to me to post if I was
successful in
relocating the Tufted Titmouse along the 9 Mile Creek Trail in Bloomington. I
was
successful, thanks to my fortunate encounter with Steve Carlson, who provided
the missing
details from most posts about observing this species. The bird was heard
singing, distantly,
just beyond the bridge between trail markers 1.7 and 1.8, closer to 1.8. After
following the
song, I was able to observe the bird actively foraging and eating for between
3-4 minutes,
before it flew further back into the woods. Unfortunately, I could not confirm
breeding, as
the bird appeared to consume all of the prey items it found, and never flew to
a nearby nest
cavity. So, even though there have been few posts recently, the bird is still
in the area.
Hopeful observers should still try for the bird, even though it is difficult to
locate. Good luck
to those still hopeful for the bird.

[mou-net] Tufted Titmouse - Lake of the Woods Co.

2012-05-29 Thread Andrew Nyhus
Hi All --

On Thursday (May 24th) I was doing some birding up north. I was driving
along CR 8 northwest of Baudette. I stopped to check out some ducks in an
inlet along the road and clearly heard the Peter Peter Peter call of a
Tufted Titmouse. I am very familiar with this bird in Winona county where I
live and hear them calling regularly. It was loudly calling from the woods
in this area (GPS 48.764365,-94.677193). I played a titmouse call on the
ipod to see if the bird would come out into view. It never did that I could
see. I did seem to move around because the sound changed intensity and
location. I was there listening to it for 5 to 10 minutes. I would love to
know if that is what I heard. If someone is in this area or going to this
area I would encourage you to investigate this. From what I can tell this
would be a first county record for Tufted Titmouse in Lake of the Woods
county.

Thanks

For the record I have not added Titmouse to my Lake of the Woods list. I

As frustrating as it can be I still love the learning process I am open

Regularly? I recall only a few sightings in Mpls in the last ten years or so.
One year there was a scattering of reports from the Bass Ponds. There was a
report of nesting in Scandia but I don't know if it was confirmed. I recall a
feeder sighting in Mpls some years ago also.

How far north in Minnesota is the tufted titmouse regularly found?  Has

[mou-net] tufted titmouse query

2011-11-02 Thread Betsy Beneke
O.K. - so, AFTER I asked the question, I went to our AWESOME mou web site and
looked at titmouse information there in the occurrence maps.  As usual, our
crack team of web folks have excellent info which partly answers my question.
Looking at the seasonal sightings, I'm going to assume the bird wanders - and
I'll be keeping an eye out!

A quick review of the MOU database shows 4 reports this fall (all South) 10
reports statewide this summer (9 South), 21 sightings this spring (all

All reports except one are from the metro area and to the South and East.

2011-11-02 Thread douglas chapman
I can tell you that 15 miles across the MN border here in South Dakota, Tufted
Titmouse is a very rare bird--fewer than 10 records with the following dates of
sighting: 1931 (N), 1925, 1960, 1922, 1921, 1963, 1977 and 1999.

This despite many eyes looking in good habitat, and let's face it (I have them
breeding at my sister's house in Virginia) their call notes are HARD TO MISS!

Hi All--

Yesterday, well into our 4th year of banding near Dundas, and despite being
in what I would judge as perfect habitat for the species, John Holden and I
banded our first Tufted Titmouse. Photos, as usual, are on my blog:
http://dantallmansbirdblog.blogspot.com

We will alert you if the titmouse is seen again.

[mou-net] Tufted Titmouse Please

I am needing to find a Tufted Titmouse and I know that Houston County is
good for this bird.

Other than areas in Houston County, does anyone know of any somewhat
reliable place to find this bird?

Possibly farther north (a little closer to the Twin Cities).

If not, does anyone have info on good spots in Houston County?

Thanks.

[mou-net] Tufted Titmouse - Fillmore, Acadian Flycatcher - Houston

2010-08-06 Thread Shawn Conrad
Sorry for the delayed report, I had limited internet access this week.

On 8/3, I found an Acadian Flycatcher singing at Beaver Creek Valley State
Park at the end of the tent campground road. There was a Lousiana
Waterthrush singing near that road where the RV sites end. As I camped at
that end tent site, I also heard a Barred Owl on and off during the night.

Additionally, on 8/3, I found 3 Tufted Titmice at the scenic overlook just
outside of Rushford on 30.

On 8/2, I could not find Common Moorhen at the sites in McCleod or Sibley
counties, but there were a couple of Black-crowned Night-Herons at Sand Lake
in Sibley as well as a few Black Terns at the Gaylord sewage ponds.

Other than that, birding was kind of slowish. Dickcissels at the Medelia
sewage ponds (Watonwan) and Willow Flycatcher at Walnut WMA (Faribault),
both on 8/2, were other highlights. The Jirik sod farms were absolutely
dead yesterday afternoon.
