Dear MPB users:

We are pleased to announce that today we are launching a company to provide a complete, on-demand photonics simulation platform consisting of our suite of popular open-source software running on scalable high-performance computing (HPC) hardware with fast and comprehensive technical support from the MIT experts. Our new company, Simpetus, aims to propel computational simulations to the forefront of photonics research and development.

We offer instant access to an extensive and cost-effective cloud-computing infrastructure running our simulation tools via Amazon Web Service's (AWS) Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). Our Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is a ready-to-use software repository on Ubuntu that contains the latest, pre-installed versions of MEEP, MPB and SCUFF-EM to enable a wide range of photonics design and modeling. The setup and management of the HPC cluster on EC2 is fully automated using StarCluster, another open-source tool developed at MIT. We provide support for the entire platform including using our software tools and launching simulations. Usage of the platform is unlimited and is based on a monthly subscription.

With this platform, photonics simulations can be launched on any-size cluster in minutes and you only pay for what you use. Whether you need a single, few-core machine for small-scale testing and prototyping for daily use or a full cluster with hundreds of nodes for large simulations for a few hours or days, everything is always available when you need it, and typically for just a few cents per core per hour. The size of your cluster can also be changed easily on-the-fly for optimal load balancing. You have total flexibility in managing your resources so that you can get results quickly and efficiently.

Simpetus provides a holistic solution to the three main challenges of using simulations for research and development:

         1) no software licenses or installation
         2) no hardware acquisition or maintenance
         3) technical support from the MIT experts

We believe that our complete simulation platform will make it easier than ever to use our software tools to catalyze your productivity and innovation. We would love to show you a live demonstration of the future of computational photonics.
