A couple of us have posted extensive commentary about the insignficance of St. Paul's highly touted agreement to respond to racial profiling. We now are informed that Minneapolis top brass will be holding a press conference to unveil our city's initiatives: http://www.startribune.com/st/qview.cgi?template=metro_a_cache&slug=race28 Initiatives? These apparently consist of some memos explaining to police that they have to do something really new: follow the constitution! The problem is that there are already policies and procedures that mention such a requirement. Minneapolis police have presumably been told at some point in their training about citizen's constitutional rights. If none of this has helped before, what will more memos accomplish? It should be noted that neither the African American community leaders nor police federation representative interviewed for the Strib article thinks there is much use for these "changes." Isn't it wonderful to live in a city on the forefront of addressing injustice?! Jordan Kushner Ward 8 ps, the mayor and chief could have first read my ten propoals from yesterday. _______________________________________ Minneapolis Issues Forum - Minnesota E-Democracy Post messages to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe, Unsubscribe, Digest option, and more: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
