Hi,

there is an option for a new MSX without having to adhere to legacy hardware.
Look at the Castle Iyonix computer (http://www.iyonix.com).
It is a new hardware based RISC PC (XScale, PCI, USB, Gigabit ethernet, etc), which 
runs RISC OS.
For old software (in this case the problem is 26bit versus 32bit), an emulator is 
used, which runs on the Iyonix.
Probably a 'new' MSX (if it ever comes that far) will be like this as well, so the USB 
cartridge interface is a logical step.
