Greetings NYYRIKKI,
NY I was looking information about Yamaha FM-Sound Synthetsizer

My Yamaha CX5M was given to me, years ago, by a friend who worked
in the service department of a music store. But, it doesn't have

Now I expect to get an "honorable mention" in your autobiography,

EMH What was the subject that resulted into these Flash
memory topics???
Hmmm... maybe you could use a little nonvolatile memory yourself! ;)
Here's a refresher, of the note that I replied to...

My remark "New Flash == Slow RAM" isn't about internal technology,
but only to suggest that Flash can be as easy to use as SRAM for

Hello JH,
GVI've made an EPP (Enhanced Parallel Port) interface to link
the SV with my PC, to use some of my Z-80 development tools
JHIt would be nice if you could put these designs/schematics
online, maybe on your homepage or something? Adapting them
to "standard" MSX cant be hard,
Hello Ricardo,

RJ Greg, you've done a EPP interface 4 your MSX, isn't it? Excuse
my ignorance, but it works like a EPP in a PC? I'm asking it to
you 'cause it's a very interesting project. Here in Brazil

MH Please do! My turbo R is too small to hold an internal harddisk.
If I could connect it to my PC and make the PC a fileserver, it
would be just like having a (somewhat slower?) harddisk in the
turbo R.
PLDo you know the Z380 has 89(!!!) 8-bit registers? I kinda feel
like programming an assembler for it,
You don't need to write one, nor purchase one of the [very few]
commercial versions: I've done the work required to make a Zilog
Z-380 Assembler available as a free download to anyone
Greetings Jon De Schrijder,
JDFLASH memory must be erased/rewritten by writing a (complex) byte
sequence to certain memory locations. So you can't use it as RAM.
That isn't correct. Flash and EEPROM are written directly, just as
any RAM. Some Flash parts require writing a 64-byte block,
Greetings Patriek Lesparre,
PLNo, there must be some deeper meaning to the mnemonics-style.
Otherwise all processors would use the same style mnemonics,
wouldn't they?!
Some of it is just semantics. For example, what Zilog says is a
"jump", Motorola says is a "branch"; Motorola says
Greetings Erik Maas...
EMBefore you can write a byte into Flash memory, you have to write
a special byte sequence to different addresses.
That's true for the older style of Flash, such as made by Catalyst.
Atmel Flash chips don't require a special byte sequence to write
data into them
Greetings Patriek Lesparre,
PLDo you know the Z380 has 89(!!!) 8-bit registers?
Or if you need 16 or 32 bit registers, there are 40(!!)
Zilog has a reputation for being generous with registers.
The Z8 MCU has 144 registers, and the Super8 MCU has 325.

Not only does Zilog make nice microprocessors, they're also a great
group of people...
A few days after e-mailing Zilog my Z-380 TASM implementation files,
I got an e-mail from their Customer Service, asking for my address.
Today I got a package via FedEx: I now have a very attractive Zilog
