I like the idea of getting ETI out of title, but I'm not so sure the comment field is the right vehicle (for reasons already stated in this thread). I would love to have a “version” field to recognize live, album, remix, dubs, etc. I'm also not so sure we should put ETI such as featured performer

In my opinion, it's a problem with the music player if it can't sort unicode characters properly and I would just use what's in the artist name. We already permit a huge range of characters (mainly accented ones) which would be problematic for something which doesn't know how to sort non-ASCII

While I don't see a real problem here (I never actually saw such a case, which – if necessary – can easily be resolved by one simple edit replacing the ASCII character in the sortname by the typographically correct one ;-) we do have a more acute problem with sortnames. Right now the guidelines
