It was smtp_url. The definition in the mutt manual says
smtp[s]://[user[:pass]@]host[:port]
and I guess I got it confused with http://user:pass@domain, so had
smtp://me:p...@corp.com@smtp.office365.com:port
but it should be
smtp://m...@corp.com:p...@smtp.office365.com:port

Given the number of typos in your email ("lookout", "Ubunto",
"smtp.offic365.com"), are you sure that you have the protocol
("smtp" vs. "smtps"), server, port, & credentials typed properly?

Sigh, never mind. 30 minutes later, I stumble across the "group"
command which lets me
group -group trolls -addr tr...@example.com
which does EXACTLY what I want. Sorry for the noise.
