know that the variable for the From line is %f and subject is %s but
I just can't get it to do what I want.
The following works well for me:

didn't work, the resulting mutt never asked for a
passphrase in the first place:-(.
I'm using an older Mutt, but I have this:
set pgp_timeout=32767
and it works great. That's the highest value you can set. (I wish it
would be possible to set it to infinite.)

filtering you tie yourself to exim.
