I finally found a way around the stupid FOLDER INTERNAL DATA message
instead of deleting it every time.
simply add the following to your .muttrc:
folder-hook . 'push "l!~h X-IMAP\n"'
And voila! no more annoying message. On my (relatively small) mailboxes
there isn't even a noticeable delay.
